New 2017 FIAT 500c at FIAT of Larchmont for Larchmont, NY

The Italian car maker, FIAT, is not new to the American auto market. In fact, their history dates back to 1908 when they started producing two luxury car models in New York. Fast forward to 2011, and FIAT reemerges with a newly designed FIAT 500 model. Six years later, the FIAT 500 remains a mainstay in the subcompact market, offering European playfulness, more charisma than its competitors, and excellent fuel economy. The 500c, or Cabrio model, is the convertible option, and comes in three different trim levels: Pop, Lounge and Abarth. If you prefer a sportier vehicle, the Abarth trim is the best option. With its turbo-boosted engine, beefier tires, dual exhaust, performance suspension and brakes, and lowered body height, the 500c Abarth can transport you to the Italian racetrack. The FIAT 500c is one of the most affordable cabrio vehicles in its class. So, if you have always dreamed of having a convertible, FIAT makes it possible. No sticker shock here, just pure bliss on the road with the top down!

Under the 500c's Hood

The FIAT 500c offers two engine options depending on the trim. The first two trim levels, the Pop and the Lounge, are equipped with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 101 horsepower and 98 lb-ft of torque. The highest trim, the Abarth, has a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that generates 157 horsepower and 183 lb-ft of torque. All three engines come paired with a six-speed automatic transmission which sends power to the front wheels. The sporty Abarth trim does offer a five-speed manual transmission which kicks up the horsepower and torque to 160 and 170 lb-ft. According to Edmund's testing, the 500c Abarth accelerated from 0 to 60 in 7.5 seconds. Fuel economy for the 500c is a combined 29 miles per gallon with the automatic transmission.

Design of FIAT 500c

One of the most distinct features of the FIAT 500c is its power-retractable soft top. With the touch of a button, the soft top can open to three different settings: slightly open for a sunroof effect, ¾ open for a panoramic sunroof effect, or fully open for the complete convertible effect. FIAT has conveniently designed the convertible top to be opened or closed even while driving up to 50 mph. The driver and passenger seating area of the FIAT 500c is spacious for even taller occupants, and standard features in the lowest trim are impressive. For starters, the Pop trim includes full power accessories, a 7-inch color driver information display, cruise control, keyless entry, heated mirrors, 15-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, a windscreen that fits between the rear seats, the Uconnect infotainment system with a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and a six-speaker audio system with USB and an auxiliary input. Moving up to the Lounge trim adds foglights, exterior chrome trim, automatic climate control, heated fronts seats, satellite radio, and leather upholstery. Finally, the supercharged Abarth trim adds sportier features such as a rear spoiler, 16-inch wheels, performance high-back cloth front bucket seats, distinctive interior and exterior detailing, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and a sport steering wheel. For the music lover, FIAT also has an available six-speaker Beats Audio sound system with a trunk-mounted subwoofer.

Is the FIAT 500c a convertible?

Yes, the 500c is the convertible version (or cabrio) of the FIAT 500 model.  All three trims of the FIAT 500 are available as a convertible.
